Germany expects surge in wild boars
The German wild boar population in 2007 will be larger than in previous years, increasing the odds of Classical Swine Fever outbreaks.
The prediction was made by the German wildlife rangers association (DJV), an organisation that has approximately 300,000 members.
According to the DJV, the number of wild boars has been exploding due to the relatively favourable weather conditions last year.
Abundant
Usually many weak animals die over the winter period – however, the warm weather allows feed like grass, insects and mice to be abundant.
The Austrian research institute for wildlife and ecology (FWO) in Vienna expects this tendency to see the same tendency to show up in the whole of Middle Europe.
