Russia: ASF outbreaks continue

Two new outbreaks of African Swine Fever (ASF) have been recently reported in Russia in the wild nature, said the message of Russian veterinary watchdog Rosselkhoznadzor. One outbreak has been revealed in the Tver region, while the other one in the Tula region.

“During the study of  the All-Russian Research Institute of Veterinary Virology and Microbiology, samples of pathological material selected from the carcass of the dead boar found in Sarmanto, Venevsky district, genetic material of ASF was identified, (ASF) according to a Rosselkhoznadzor report.



In accordance with the “Regulations on the activities for the prevention and elimination of African swine fever” the carcasses of wild boars has been destroyed by burning, in the presence of veterinary specialists.


In the Tver region the ASF virus was detected in the Denkovo, Romashin, Maksyaeevo areas. According to Olesya Krivtsov, spokesperson for Tver Interregional Veterinary Laboratory, the virus was shown in the results of sample analyses taken from the carcasses of nine dead wild boars.
