EU: Boar taint vaccine can be used three times as well

The European Medicines Agency (EMEA) has approved the use of a vaccine against boar taint for a third time.

The vaccine, Improvac, manufactured and marketed by Pfizer Animal Health, only had an indication for use two times – once after eight weeks and a second about six weeks prior to slaughter.

The novel approval is mainly relevant for pigs slaughtered at later age, e.g. in Italy, in production for Parma hams. There has to be a timeframe of ten weeks between second and third dosage.

Three-injection schemes also can be applied in organic farms, applying longer finishing periods.
