Russia faces jump in pork prices
Despite all the assurances of the Russian authorities that the ban on meat imports from Europe will not lead to any deficit on the domestic market, over the past two weeks pork prices in the country rose 15-20% depending on the region and continue to grow, according to the official statics.
The most difficult situation is in the Kaliningrad region, previously the region almost completely imported pork from the EU and especially pork raw materials for the production of sausages.
“For our meat processors the ban became a real problem. Until recently they were buying raw materials in Poland, Germany, Holland and other countries of the European Union for production of sausages, but this channel is closed,” say representatives of the livestock department of the Kaliningrad region.
According to Igor Antonyuk CEO of Chernyakhovskogo, the meat processing plant still cannot buy meat in Canada or Latin America. Most regions of central Russia are also closed for any export because of the outbreaks of African Swine Fever. As a result prices are rising fast and already jumped 20% since the introduction of the ban.
