De Heus gains access to Brazilian pig and piglet feed market
International feed giant Royal De Heus and the Brazilian animal nutrition company Nutrifarms will form a joint-venture. De Heus set up the joint-venture by acquiring a majority interest in Nutrifarms.
In a press release, De Heus called the develompent ‘a key strategic step’. With this step De Heus, headquartered in the Netherlands, gives substance to its goal of further expanding the product portfolio and to work on building a leading position in the internationally important Brazilian market for animal feed and nutritional supplements.
The founder of Nutrifarms, Henrique da Silva Passos, will continue to be very closely involved in the company and views the acquisition as an important impulse for further growth. Nutrifarms, driven by its quality philosophy, has experienced spectacular growth over the past 14 years.
Market leaders
The company is one of the market leaders in the field of pig concentrates, premixes and nutritional specialties. Nutrifarms believes there are still excellent opportunities for further growth in adjacent product categories and customer groups. De Heus is the ideal partner for Nutrifarms in terms of jointly realising this further growth.
“With its more than 100 years of knowledge and experience in the animal feed market, De Heus further enhances our nutritional knowledge and enables us to continue to develop much faster,” saids Henrique da Silva Passos.
As a joint shareholder, Da Silva Passos will remain responsible for nutrition, product development, as well as various customer relationships.The day-to-day management of Nutrifarms will be in the hands of Hermanus Wigman. He has a broad experience in the Brazilian pig sector.
Nutrifarms constitutes a good basis for De Heus in terms of building up a market position in an internationally leading meat producing country and consequently a sizeable and growing animal feed market.
