Dr S. Ernest Sanford

Dr Sanford became a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 1971 after a study at the Ontario Veterinary College in Guelph, Canada. Four years later he obtained his diploma in Veterinary Pathology at the same college. Since 1981, he received a pathology specialty board certification at the American College of Veterinary Pathologists.

Before joining Boehringer Ingelheim, he worked as a diagnostic pathologist at the Veterinary Laboratory Services in Ontario, Canada.

Altogether, he wrote over 100 publications in scientific journals, saw 170 scientific abstracts and conference proceedings published and had an additional 110 publications in lay journals.

In addition, he was co-author of the book chapters on Streptococcal Diseases in "Diseases of Swine" - 6th and 7th editions. He also was author of book chapter on Actinobacillus suis in 7th edition of "Diseases of Swine."

The majority of his publications and talks have been on new and emerging diseases occurring in intensively-raised, confinement-reared pigs.

Only two years ago, Dr Sanford received the Howard W. Dunne Memorial Award, awarded by the American Association of Swine Veterinarians.
