Genetiporc USA launches the G 6.0 terminal sire line

//23 Feb 2012
Genetiporc USA has launched a new boar type, the G 6.0 boar. This type has been engineered to reduce production cost for today’s heavier market weights, due to significant improvements in feed conversion.

The creation of the G 6.0 boar began over eight years ago when the company, as part of an integrated business in the swine industry, anticipated that pork production cost was on the rise and business models would need to change to remain competitive. A new level of genetic performance needed to be achieved, and thus the creation of a new terminal sire began.

The terminal line has been brought into the North American marketplace. Currently more than 500,000 pigs of the newly selected line combinations have been raised in commercial environments.

Trials
To date more than 100 trials characterising the growth and performance, as well as carcass characteristics, have been completed. These trials demonstrate that the new terminal sire is delivering 0.15-0.20 improvements in feed efficiency up to 290 lbs (131.5 kg) live market weight, representing an improved carcass value of US$7-10 per head.

The company currently has the new G 6.0 terminal sires in place at regional AI centers and also offers natural mate boars from the G 6.0 and V-300 boars.

Genetiporc is a division of Breton Foods Canada, an integrated business in the swine industry. The company specialises in the production, selection and distribution of breeding stock with superior genetic and health status, thereby ensuring consistent, high-volume supply from a single source.

The company is doing business in Canada, United States, Mexico, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Colombia, Brazil, Argentina, China and Russia.
