NY ENDRUPHOLM: Denmark
//21 Apr 2009
The Danish farm of Ny Endrupholm produces almost 100,000 pigs per year on many different locations. No wonder an on-site mixing and milling facility was installed to prepare the about 100 tonnes of pig feed per day. Last November, Pig Progress had a look.

One of the best decisions I ever made
What if you have a multi-site pig production operation but your location is nowhere near a larger town? Ordering your feed further away is one option, but mixing and milling on-site is another. One that turns out to have some extra benefits, a Danish pig producer found out.
Ny Endrupholm, the farm of owner Martin Madsen, is located near the town of Gørding, in the heart of Danish Jutland
NY ENDRUPHOLM: Denmark
Ny Endrupholm, the farm of owner Martin Madsen, is located near the town of Gørding, in the heart of Danish Jutland
His multi-site finishing operation is spread out over twelve facilities in the near surroundings, having a total of 25,000 fattening places - and a lot of manure for digesting
In total 90,000 pigs are sent to slaughter every year
Before departure from the site, the weight of the truck can be closely determined
The pigs are fed a mixture of barley, wheat, soy and a series of additives like minerals and fishmeal. Soy is shipped in regularly from South America and is stored in a barn with a capacity of 5,000 tonnes
A fully computerised mix and mill installation by Big Dutchman Scandinavia has recently been put in place to ensure correct, uniform feeding for all sites
The computer system, called MC99NT, can prepare up to five portions at the same time
In ten feed silos, the basic ingredients are stored. The barley and wheat are partly produced on Madsen's own estate
Further ingredients are added through eight mineral silos
Bags like these are lifted up and poured into the mineral silos
The milling installation - altogether the machine mixes 100 tonnes of pig feed per day or 26,000 tonnes/year
Milling and mixing installation. The cost price of mixing and grinding is €0.012 per kg or €1.200/day
