Poland eyes South Korea as new pork market

//20 Jan 2009
Poland is looking towards South Korea as a potential new market for its pork.

The Polish Chamber of Commerce will visit the Food Fare in Kintex, in May with a hope of getting a share of the large Korean market for pork.

Newspapers and television advertising will be used to promote the pork, as Poland trys to find new markets outside of Russian and the European Union.

The director of the Korea-Poland Chamber of Commerce, Bozena Giacchini explained that with the €2.4 million euro information campaign, Team Poland will heavily promote Polish pork throughout South Korea and in the United States.

Wislaw Rozanski, the president of the Polish Union of Producers and Employers of the Meat Industry, explained that Polish pork differs than its competitors due to the way the animal is raised. "We don't have large scale farms," he comments, "all our producers are small, which ends up giving the pork a better taste."

In addition Giacchini stated that polish animals are not injected with hormones or chemicals. "These days it's very important, especially in Korea for the food to be all natural."
