Pig industry professional awarded for commitment to training

//23 Nov 2010
League leader Jonathan Bradley has been awarded a prize as a top achiever for his continued commitment to training. The East Anglian pig producer was one of the 10 top point-scoring members of the Pig Industry Professional Register (PIPR) invited to sum up why they are proud to be part of it.
In his winning response Jonathan said: “At last the industry has the mechanism to recognise achievement at all levels and I learn something valuable from every training event.” Jonathan has been instrumental in the East of England Pig Training Group for many years.

This new PIPR ‘top achiever’ award, like the PIPR scheme itself, recognises the huge amount of effort pig professionals are putting in to keep their skills up to date.

Richard Longthorp, pig producer and chair of Lantra's National Council for England, said: “In the pig industry we know we have many skilled people. These people are also regularly updating their skills through a wide range of activities such as formal training courses, BPEX Knowledge Transfer workshops etc.

“Yet before PIPR there was very little recognition of this because so few of those skills were formally recorded or recognised. We were unable to demonstrate our competence and I believe we were seriously underselling ourselves.”

“PIPR addresses this by offering a simple system to record and recognise all skills development activity and thereby demonstrate our professionalism. Importantly it does this at all levels, from business owner to stockman to vet to nutritionist.”
