//14 Dec 2011
According to Rosselkhoznadzor (Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance) a new outbreak of African Swine Fever (ASF) was registered on 9 December in the private sector of Kirsanovka village in the Orenburg region in Russia near the border with Kazakhstan.
In connection with this incident the Kazakhstan government urgently announced the adoption of measures to prevent the spread of the disease in the territory of the country.

Restriction imposed
Kazakhstan has imposed restriction on the import of pork and pork products from the Saratov and Orenburg regions of Russia where latest outbreaks of ASF took place, according to the press service of the Ministry of Agriculture of Kazakhstan, while a ban on pork imports from other regions of Russia, where previous outbreaks were registered,  also remains in force.

Also, Aktobe, Atyrau and  the west Kazakhstan regions of Kazakhstan bordering the Orenburg region of Russia was instructed to tighten control over the movement of controlled goods. Disinfection barriers have also been put in place at the customs terminals.

The government is also considering destroying all livestock in Aktobe, Atyrau and western Kazakhstan regions in private households.

According to estimates the new ban will cause the volume of pork imports in Kazakhstan from Russia to decrease by 40% compared to last years level.
