The reason for that was mainly to be found in the
soccer World Cup, held in Germany, in June and July, but also in the good
weather, encouraging barbecues.
These figures were released by the German Federal Agency for Agriculture and Food (BLE).
The high prices compensated for the relatively large supply of finisher pigs. At most, a kilogramme of slaughterweight pork (trade class E), was €1.67 in the end of June - in comparison to €1.53 one year earlier.
