Europe’s biggest pig show kicks off in Italy

The 50th edition of Rassegna Suinicola, Europe’s largest show dedicated to only pig production, will start today in the heart of Italy’s pig producing area, in the city of Reggio Nell’Emilia. Pig Progress editor Vincent ter Beek from the venue.

The show, that will last for three days, focuses on all elements in pig breeding, from genetics to innovative equipment and from feeds to pharmaceutical products. On all three days, lectures and meetings will be held during which visitors can upgrade their knowledge.

Several pig organisations will speak, such as companies like PIC Italia and Intervet/Schering-Plough.

The trade show district covers more than 25,000 m2. The last edition of the show in 2007 hosted 321 exhibitors, including 77 foreign companies, representing 16 countries. In 2007, a total of 15,794 came to visit the show, from Italy and 29 other countries.

Suinicola is held in Siper – Reggio Emilia Trade Fair. The city is located in the area where 88.2% of all pig producers in Italy can be found.
