Bio-security researchers are looking at methods of control. In particular, Dr Steve Lapidge from the Invasive Animals CRC has been creating trials of new methods of control around Australia.
Bio-security risk the same
According to Lapidge, the threat that these pigs have to bio-security remains the same.
"The issue that they amplify the disease and they are not restricted by fences and can often move freely through the landscape means that they are a real risk in terms of disease spread," said Lapidge.
"But it's an ever-present risk and something we can't become complacent about," he added.
