Vion modernises Vilshofen pig abbatoir

German pig numbers continue to drop

29 Dec 2008 - German markets and price reporting agency – ZMP – reports that German pig numbers are continue to drop. The number of swine dropped to 26.4 million in November 2008. The total number of animals available for slaughter in 2009 is therefore unlikely to be any higher than in 2008. Read more >>

Blend feeding can lower feed costs

29 Dec 2008 - Preliminary results from a trial in Australia are showing that blend feeding can lower feed costs without affecting growth performance in pigs. The trial was conducted at the Western Australian Department of Agriculture and Food (DAFWA) Medina Research Centre using a Feedlogic FEEDPro system and was funded by the Pork Cooperative Research Centre (CRC). Pork labelling begins in Korea

22 Dec 2008 - The Ministry for Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries has implemented place-of-origin labelling for pork, chicken and kimchi. It already applies to rice and beef. The regulations which come into force on Monday requires meat processors and sellers to issue receipts identifying the place of origin. Read more >>
