Centralised farming in Malaysia questioned 02 Oct 2006

This message was said by Datuk Dr Teng Hock Nan, the state of Penang's chairman for local government, traffic management, information and community relations.

 

In a speech he referred to government directives that all states have their respective pig farms centralised by 2008. Penang's waste treatment guidelines, followed by pig producers since 2002 had proven effective, he said.

 

The farmers, 98% of them being cooperative in Penang, had also used modern methods to minimise the stench from pig waste, he said. "With these measures taken, they may not need to move to a centralised farming area."
