That news was officially disclosed by the Belize minister of agriculture,
Vildo Marin, at the latest ministers of agriculture meeting of OIRSA, a Middle
American international organisation for agricultural health.
The
declaration has also been notified to the World Health Organisation
(WHO).
Ongoing effort
The ministry of agriculture continues its ongoing
effort with the Belize Agricultural Health Authority (BAHA) to ensure
maintenance of this CSF
free status, either through risk analysis,
surveillance, emergency response, public awareness or frequent border
patrols.
At the moment, only sixteen other countries are free of
CSF.
Outbreaks have been confirmed throughout Central America since
the USA eradicated the disease in 1978. The only countries that did not see an
outbreak were Belize, Costa Rica and Panama.
