On Tuesday, pigmeat showed leg lesions not uncommon to FMD or Swine Vesicular
Disease in an abattoir in the county of Antrim. The pig was grown in the county
of Down.
Precaution
As a precautionary measure
and in accordance with EU requirements, on 8 January 2007 the Northern Irish
Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD) imposed some limited
animal movement restrictions - waiting for laboratory tests to confirm whether
the disease had broken out.
