Dutch likely to stop vaccinating for AD

// 03 Nov 2006

It is likely that the Dutch will stop the preventive vaccinating pigs for Aujeszky's Disease (AD).

Provided that several authorities agree with proposals, the ban against Aujeszky's Disease vaccinations will take effect on January 1st, 2007.

The basis of the proposals is that necessary cullings have to be prevented and outbreaks are only fought with the principles of vaccination and isolation.

Maintainance
This summer already, the Dutch board for Livestock and Meat (PVV), showed a preference to stop preventive vaccinating. Further talks with the Dutch ministry for agriculture, nature and food quality have to be conducted to agree on how to maintain the new regulations.

Hopefully by the end of December, it can be certain that the current vaccination obligation will turn into a vaccination ban.
