UK: Pig industry award on offer
The pig industry is looking to honour somebody who has gone the extra mile to help – and there are many out there.
The David Black Award is given each year to somebody who has made a significant and sustained contribution to the industry.
The decision is made by a panel of independent judges chaired by BPEX Director Mick Sloyan.
Mick said: “Each year the judges face a very difficult task because there are so many deserving people nominated for the award.
“It makes you realise what a wealth of talent there is in the industry and how dedicated they all are.”
Former winners of the award include producers, processors, retailers, academics and journalists.
Digby Scott, former publisher of Pig World and a winner in 2001, said: “The David Black Award is the pig industry’s most important award.
“It demonstrates to the rest of the world, including others in the pig meat supply chain, ministers, peers, MPs and regulators what we value most in this sector and what our best people are capable of achieving on behalf of the industry.”
The award will be presented at an industry breakfast held in the House of Lords in November.
BPEX is the organisation for pig levy payers in England and is a division of the Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB).
