11-07-2012 | |

Pork producer Smithfield Foods is opening a restaurant in its headquarters town Smithfield, Virginia, to display its products.

The food company opened the ‘Taste of Smithfield’ restaurant yesterday, which of course features the company’s pork products.

Customers can buy salads and sandwiches made with Smithfield pork products as well as ribs and burgers and desserts.

“We’re very excited about our new venture because we think it will help attract more visitors to our historic town, along with giving us a showplace for our products,” said C. Larry Pope, Smithfield’s president and CEO. Smithfield’s brands include Smithfield, Armour and Farmland.

The restaurant shares a new two-story, 800 m2 (8,700 square ft) building with Smithfield’s retail store, the Genuine Smithfield Ham Shoppe.
