Irish Pig Health Society faces the challenges

The Irish Pig Health Society will hold its 39th symosium and trade fair next week Tuesday in Mullingar Park Hotel in Co. Westmeath.

This year’s theme is ‘Facing the Challenges’.

The line-up of an impressive list of speakers. Dr Paul Hughes, Sardi Intensive Livestock Productions, South Australia, will talk about ‘Rearing and management of the sow’.

Frequent Pig Progress contributor and blogger David Burch, from Octagon Services, UK, will discuss ‘Antibiotic resistance – its impact on the pig industry’.

Jake Waddilove, from the UK Eastgate Veterinary Group will talk about ‘Vaccination in pigs’.

After lunch, Dr Laura Boyle, senior research officer at the Pig Development Department, Teagasc Animal & Grassland Research & Innovation Centre, Moorepark will discuss ‘Towards January 2013, updates, implications and options for group housing pregnant sows’.

The last presentation of the day is given by Jim Power, chairman of Love Irish Food, with an ‘Industry overview’.

The event will be held from 10am until 6pm.
