African Swine Fever may have hit Armenia

According to the Armenian Ministry of Agriculture, African Swine Fever (ASF) may be a threat currently in Lorut, the northern province of Lori. Armenian media reports have stated that pigs may have already died of ASF.

Months ago, experts warned that the community should keep pigs indoors so that reinfection does not occur. However, similar symptoms of ASF could be seen, while the community implemented measures in the area months ago to prevent the disease.
Ignored warning
"However, this important warning was clearly ignored and that could have contributed to the new outbreak of the infection," said a statement on the Armenian Ministry of Agriculture’s official website.

last year African Swine Fever killed more than 200 pigs in Armenia and hundreds were culled to prevent the spread of it.
