Pig prices in France rising steeply

Prices for pigs at the market in Plérin, France have been rising sharply for the second week in a row.

Last week, a rise of 3.6 eurocents/kg could be noted, this week another increase of 4.2 cents was seen – leading up to a total price of €1.099/kg.

According to the Marché du Porc Breton the market finally has started to feel the consequences of lower production. In addition, developments of foreign markets seem to have had their influence on French prices.

Earlier this month, French producers even provocatively retracted their pigs from the market as they felt prices were too low.
