Free range pork demand prompts piggery deal in Australia
Reports state that the Craig Mostyn Group has bought the West Australian Great Southern Pig Company from the Paspaley Group.
The deal means that now it will add 2000 sows to the Craig Mostyn Group's existing pig enterprises.
Free range in demand
The deal is seen as a lucrative one because "free range" animal production is in demand, said David Lock, Craig Mostyn chief executive.
"The free range market for pigs in Australia is growing," he says.
The Great Southern Pig Company has one of the largest outdoor piggeries. It has operations which are based in Narrogin and Albany.
