New multiplier op for Hülsenberger breeding pigs
The German Schwasdorf Agricultural Cooperative will become a new multiplier operation for Hülsenberger Zuchtschweine (breeding pigs), situated in Eastern Germany.
The objective is to set the multiplier capacity at 600 grandparent animals during the first phase. The new arrivals will arrive in two batches of 300 animals, to match the number of usable quarantine places.
In early October, the first 300 gilts arrived at their new quarters in Schwasdorf. The second batch followed in calendar week 46. Because of the selected age structure of the groups, insemination is due to begin in November, which means that the first breeding piglets can be delivered to the rearing facility from mid-May 2010.
The cooperative's senior management team got the idea during a visit to France. The SPF-Landrace nucleus breeding operation Bourget was the chosen supplier for this new multiplier organisation.
The foundation of Schwasdorf Agricultural Cooperative resulted from the partial merger of the former Pflanze Boddin LPG (Agricultural Production Cooperative) into the Schwasdorf LPG and the subsequent conversion to a registered cooperative in 1990.
