South-Africa opens door to German pork
South-African authorities have announced an agreement
enabling the import of German pork.
German state secretary for agriculture, Gerd MÃ¼ller, and his South-African
counterpart, Lulama Xingwama, have signed a contract in Pretoria.
MÃ¼ller predicts demand for German pork to increase dramatically in 2010 for
the World Cup football championships to be held in South-Africa.
Currently, pork consumption amounts to 160,000 tonnes in South-Africa, of
which around 20,000 tonnes is imported.
