BPEX annual search for pig personality

06-07-2007 | |

The annual search is under way for somebody whose commitment to the British pig industry needs to be recognised and honoured by their peers.

The David Black Award, sponsored by the British Pig Executive, is presented annually to somebody who has made a positive and sustained contribution to the British pig industry in any capacity. And the industry is full of such dedicated people who work hard year after year for the benefit of all, yet they are often the people least interested in seeking the limelight.

This year’s winner will be chosen by an independent panel of judges chaired by BPEX Chief Executive Mick Sloyan who is appealing for your help in making nominations for this prestigious award. In the past the award has been presented to people from all areas of the industry – producers, academics, journalists and even the Pig Health Control Association.

Official presentation
The official presentation will take place at an industry breakfast in the House of Lords on Wednesday, October 31. Mr Sloyan said: “Each year the recipient is firmly of the belief there are people out there better qualified than themselves to receive the award. But they have been nominated by their peers who respect them for what they have achieved.

“There is a wealth of talent in the British pig industry and the aim of the award is to turn the spotlight on somebody who deserves it, somebody whose contribution has made a difference.”
