Cranswick to sell founding pig-feed operation

22-05-2007 | |

British pig seller and sausage maker, Cranswick, is to sell its pig-feed operation, the business the company was founded on 30 years ago, to one of the UK’s largest animal-feed suppliers, BOCM Pauls.

Cranswick was set up as a pig-feed seller by a group of farmers in the early 1970s and began expanding its operations in 1998.

According to a statement by Martin Davey, the company’s executive chairman, “The trading environment for this business has been particularly challenging in recent years following the substantial reduction in the UK pig herd.”

With the sale of the pig feed operation the company will now focus primarily on its premium food business and its smaller pet-food and pig-marketing arms.

The sale price has not been disclosed.
