Australia: Rejection of COOL labelling on pork

24-12-2007 | |

The Australian Meat Industry Council says moves to apply country-of-origin labelling (COOL) on all imported processed pork would be extremely difficult and expensive.

Submissions on the AMIC’s position are being requested by Food Standards Australia New Zealand by February 2008.

Kevin Cotrill, chief executive of AMIC, says that the labels would appear on the “made from local and imported product” segment. “It is not that we do not want them, it is the cost involved which is the main issue”.
