Danish Crown contracts out pig processing
Danish Crown, international food producer, has
contracted out part of its pig slaughtering capacity to private slaughter
company Jutland Meat.
The action has been taken to assist Jutland (owned by the Dutch entrepreneur
Frans Stortelder) as the company has been combating a shortage in slaughter
capacity on account of recent fires at its facilities.
Keeping within cartel rules, Danish Crown would be obliged to deliver several
thousand pigs to Jutland Meat, provided that the company does not slaughter more
than 10,000 animals per week. If Jutland exceeds this amount, Danish Crown is
entitled to compensation.
Both partners have, with the blessing of the Danish cartel authority,
overlooked this regulation.
