ASG to train Russian pig farmers

09-11-2007 | |

The Animal Sciences Group of the University of Wageningen, The Netherlands, has announced that it will set up a training programme for pig and dairy farm managers in cooperation with Russian universities and Dutch companies operating in Russia.

The Dutch ministry of agriculture requested the ASG to set up this important education programme with a budget of €700,000. The focus will be on pig and dairy farming with the aim of increasing Dutch knowledge and building up a training centre in various locations within Russia.

Skills gap
“A gap exists between the expertise acquired by students at Russian agricultural universities and the skills required to run livestock businesses,” says Monice van Dongen of ASG.

The programme will be put together in the next six months and will be integrated in university courses after four years.
