Sausages recalled for bacteria infection

Gold Star Sausage is recalling approximately 7,000 kilogrammes of sausage products that may be contaminated with the bacteria Listeria monocytogenes.

The company, based in Denver, Colorado, says that the problem was dicovered through testing by a a non-government institution. The US Food Safety Inspection Service said no reports of illnesses have been made.


The products were dispersed to a total of eighteen states across the US – for a complete list, see the FSIS site .


Eating food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes can cause listeriosis. The disease is not very common, but could be fatal. Listeriosis can cause high fever, headache, neck stiffness and nausea.
