Denmark: bigger gap in pork prices
The two leading pigmeat companies in Denmark, Danish Crown and Tican, had serious problems with bridging the German-Danish pigmeat price gap in 2006.
According to a report from LandbrugsAvisen, quoting figures from the Danish Meat Association, the annual price difference in 2006 peaked at a record high of €0.10 per kilogramme.
Annual loss
For Danish finisher producers with an annual production of 10,000 animals, the price difference would add up to an income reduction of over €67,000 on a yearly basis.
Traditionally lower salaries for slaughter house workers in Germany are to blame, according to Bent Lassen, Chairman of Danske Slagterier (DS).
However, he also mentioned that price differences in 2006 were also influenced by market supplies.
