Chinese experts assist KZN pig project

15-12-2006 | |

Nanping experts have agreed to assist KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa, through innovative technology and scientific methods for preserving and enhancing the supply of pigs.

South Africa is currently importing over 60% of pork products, making it a very expensive commodity for local consumers.

Dahe Agricultural and Animal Husbandry centre in Fujian, which produces over 120,000 pigs per year and slaughters up to 90 000, have committed to a technical co-operation agreement with KZN for the transfer of skills.

Advanced and innovative mushroom technology started by Chinese scientists in KwaZulu-Natal has prompted other African countries to adopt the idea and train students in cultivation.
