Klaus Lønne Ingvartsen (57), who comes from a position as head of the former Department of Animal Health and Bioscience, has been appointed as head of the new Department of Animal Science.
The Department of Animal Science, which came into being on 1 July, 2011, has been appointed a leader who is strong in research and leadership. The choice fell on Klaus Lønne Ingvartsen, who has been the head of the former Department of Animal Health and Bioscience since October 2007. The new department is almost the same as the old one but will also include the research group Reproduction Physiology and the fur animal farm.
Throughout his career as a researcher, Klaus Lønne Ingvartsen has been awarded or helped to get awarded more than DKK 150 million for research that has primarily focused on the how production diseases are affected by nutrition, management, and genotype, on monitoring of animals and on prevention of production diseases.
Klaus Lønne Ingvartsen graduated as an agronomist in 1983 and completed his PhD in 1992 at the Royal Veterinary and Agricultural University. He became a senior scientist in 1993, and was appointed head of research in 1998. In 2005, he became deputy head of the Department of Animal Health, Welfare and Nutrition, which later changed its name to the Department of Animal Health and Bioscience. In 2007, he was appointed head of the department.
Klaus Lønne Ingvartsen has an extensive list of publications comprising 320 titles, including 72 articles published in internationally reviewed journals.
The newly appointed department head looks forward to the tasks and duties in the new department.
“We need to consolidate our core areas and become part of the new centres that are being formed at Aarhus University. We have a lot to offer the new National Centre for Food and Agriculture in the areas of nutrition, physiology and immunology. We will also continue to develop our collaboration with human science areas and focus on disease and animal models, which have great perspective in areas such as nutrition,” says Klaus Lønne Ingvartsen.
