The Ministry of Natural Resources has proposed to prohibit the issuance of veterinary certificates for transportation of pigs and wild boars without the results of studies on the presence on the African Swine Fever (ASF) virus.
This was expressed by Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Ecology of the Russian Federation Vladimir Lebedev at the meeting of the Council of the Federation on the localisation and elimination of ASF.
Testing for ASF in Russia takes time and is expensive, if such decision is undertaken this will mean that most pig transportation in the country will be frozen.
"Wild boars are not the cause ASF spreading and the mass shooting of animals will not solve the problem. We must prohibit the issuance of veterinary certificates and certificates for transportation of domestic pigs and wild boars if there are no research results on the ASF virus," said Lebedev.
He says that with pork exports and live pigs from ASF regions, the problem of the spread of the virus in the country could not be resolved.
