Herbals against roundworm infections in pigs

Trials to test the prevention of parasitic roundworm infections by the use of herbal treatment are soon to be carried out by Wageningen University's Animal Sciences Group (ASG) in the Netherlands.

The research is mainly focused on biological pig farming, as this sector is not supposed to be using conventional ways of removing the worms.

ASG will test various mixes, containing thyme, lemon balm and black tea. The herbal treatment then will be compared to both a conventional medicine and to non-treatment.

Previous reseach showed that herbals are an effective protection to worms, however, the use of it is expensive.
