Russian offer to China: Pork in exchange for grain
Russia’s authorities have recently offered China to expand their pork trade to Russia in exchange for access to the Chinese market for Russian grain producers.

This was said by Alexei Alekseenko, assistant manager of Russian veterinary body Rosselkhoznadzor. He added, “Annually the USA and Canada supply China with 6 million tonnes of feed grains, and we are quite capable to press them on that market.”
The countries also discussed the concluding of the relevant barter agreement, as both sides are interested in avoiding the dollar as the currency of payment in mutual agreements, he added.
Interest in supplying grain to China
The company Rusagro, which exports oil to China, already expressed interest in supplies of grain and other products to China.
“We are waiting for an agreement, and we are interested to supply corn, soybean and some other products,” the RusAgro spokesperson said. He added that China can become an important market for the company which currently develops cultivation of feed crop in the Far East of Russia.
Supplying not only grain but also meat
Alexey Ulyukayev, the Russian minister of Economic Development, believed that in the future, Russia will be able to expand the range of supplying products and to deliver not only grain, but also meat products.
Ulyukayev pointed to China’s enormous demand to pork. “We have to go to this market. We have to go to the Korean market; we should go to the Vietnamese market, and so on. We will help them (the Russian pork producers, VV) to do it. Grain is also important, but the there is more added value in the meat production.”
