Russia: Slight increase in pork production
In the first six months of 2015, pork production in Russia has risen slightly by 3.5%, to hit a total of 1.76 million tonnes.
These data were released by Russia’s ministry of agriculture. Figures were expressed in slaughterweight, having gathered data from all categories of farms.
Market players are increasing the volume of production amid a good market conjuncture. This, in turn, takes place while average purchasing prices for raw pork are growing as well, according to the authorities.
Average pig price in June
The ministry estimated that in June, the average pig price was 105.7 roubles per kg (US$1.70). That was a 5.2% year-on-year increase and 2.9% higher than the price of January 2015. In hard currency, however, today’s price is nearly 30-40% lower, compared to last year’s rate.
The strongest increase in the volume of pork production has been achieved in the sector of so-called commercial pig farming. Here the volume of production reached 1.45 million tonnes, 7.4% more than during the first six months of 2014.
Strongest growth of pork production
In addition, according to the report, the strongest growth of pork production has been recorded in the regions of the centre of the European Russia, including:
• Kursk Oblast (+29,400 tonnes or 31%);
• Belgorod Oblast (+18,100 tonnes or 5.2%);
• Pskov (+11,700 tonnes or 32%);
• Tver (+9,300 tonnes or 58.9%);
• Novosibirsk (+6,600 tonnes or 45.3%);
• Tambov Oblast (500 tonnes or 7.2%); and
• Krasnodar Krai (4,600 tonnes or 17.8%).
