Kuban launches new pig farm in Russia
Russian agricultural holding Kuban has completed the construction of a meat processing plant and a pig breeding farm in Ust-Labinsk district, Krasnodar Krai in the south of Russia. The final cost of the project amounted to RUB 2.6 billion (US$ 41 million).
The pig farm is designed for 50,000 pigs while the capacity of the meat processing plant is 8,400 tonnes per year. According to official information, the plant will carry out primary processing of cattle and pigs, including cold treatment and storage of raw meat. The capacity of the pig breeding farm amounts to 5,900 tonnes of pork per year.
“The pig breeding farm is fully automated and equipped with automatic climate control, which allows us to reduce rejection and waste and also to reduce feed consumption of pigs (compared to the average Russian level). It has the highest level of biosecurity,” said a company spokesperson.
The highest level of biosecurity at the pig farms is necessary due to the threat of African Swine fever (ASF) outbreaks in this part of the country.
In 2015 as part of the development of further processing of agricultural products strategy, Kuban plans to open workshops for ready-to-cook and sausages production from pork.
