UK: New Human Resources Toolkit For Pig Units

BPEX has produced a new BPEX Human Resources (HR) Toolkit for pig unit managers and is also running a workshop near York this month.

The toolkit contains an induction manual template to help integrate new starters into the business and a ‘skills matrix’ to help keep track of staff skills and identify where more training is needed. Managers can tailor both of these documents to their specific units.

The human resources workshop will be led by specialist training company, Poultec, on 26 June 2013 at Sandburn Hall near York, 10:00 to 17:00. It will cover: motivating staff, effective communication, staff induction, appraisals and training and development. Plus, a pig unit manager will be there to talk about how these can be put into practice on farm.

BPEX skills manager Samantha Bowsher says: “The HR Toolkit and the workshop will help pig unit managers provide staff with more support and a structure for their development. It is a key part of unit management and helps the whole team to make a positive impact on pig productivity.”
