Romania to export pork again to EU

According to Romania’s National Sanitary Veterinary and Food Safety Authority (ANSVSA) the country will be permitted to resume pork exports to the European Union (EU) from all of its commercial pig holdings as of 1 January 2014.

Pork and live pig exports to the EU were restricted since 2003 due to Classical Swine Fever (CSF). The last outbreaks CFS in Romania were reported in 2007.

Lifting the ban means that 300 commercial pig holdings will be able to sell outside the country from as if next year.

According to Romanian press, Agerpres, “At present exports to European Union countries were made only from four counties in the western part of the country, respectively Timis , Arad, Caras and and Bihor . It’s very important for this sector that the export green light was received in the community space given that revenues of over one billion euros might be reached,” said President of the National Sanitary Veterinary and Food Safety Authority (ANSVSA), Vladimir Manastireanu.
